What We Do
Local Giving. Local Grants.
Bread for the Journey Feather River is a group of volunteers that raises money in our local community. We give micro-grants to people who have an idea to make our community more healthy, just, and wonderful. These small grants, given to the right person at the right time, make a big impact in our local community.
Our Mission
To find people of strength and vision who are excited about improving our community and help them make it happen.
Making an Impact
By supporting visionary projects of people in our community, Bread for the Journey is helping to sustain cultural diversity, nurture children’s love of the natural world and the arts, develop the leadership of youth, and create simple systems to meet basic needs of the most vulnerable in our community.

How We Do It
People before Proposals
People are at the heart of generosity and philanthropy. Grant selection is based on personal interaction and trust, not paperwork. If someone has an idea to improve our community, we invite them to sit with us and tell us their idea. If we feel they’re ready, we offer a small grant to help them get started. It’s that simple. No applications, no big reports.
Relationship-centered and Fun
A key element of our success is that we make room for relationship—for conversation, for laughter, for the time it takes to know and respect one another as fellow travelers on life’s journey.
Simple and Nimble
We keep decision-making simple so that we can respond quickly to local needs. We run our local charity solely with volunteers working from our kitchens and living rooms. We have fun, keep it simple, and there is very little overhead, so what comes in is given right back.
Bread for the Journey Feather River is local, nonprofit charity, registered with the State of California. We hold 501(c)(3) tax exempt status with the IRS.
